“Attiya seems to have arrived at a minimalist vision of lines and colours, sparingly used and pointed in their form and imagery. Images from the world without, too, seem to have ebbed out of the frame. The highly finished and perfected beauty of these works is what links them to the miniaturist sensibility. We are led to view the damaged spine as an object of beauty and vulnerability, ivory, white, caught in a cascading plait that recalls both bone and steel.”
