Arunanshu Chowdhury

artist bio

Arunanshu Chowdhury was born in West Bengal in 1969, and he completed his BFA and MFA in Painting from M.S. University, Baroda. A recipient of The Elizabeth Greensheilds Foundation Award (Canada) in 1995 and The Ravi Jain Foundation Award (New Delhi), Arunanshu has held 12 solo shows and participated in several group shows in India and abroad. Chowdhury's works resonate with the idea of historical memory and they are his reactions to the extreme violence of our times. Besides these concerns his work delves deeper into the predicament and precariousness embedded in the contemporary society. According to Arunanshu his art is created, "by juxtaposing several images, creating movement and a haze of memories, I have tried to animate the jumble of life, the fast pace and imposition of material things in my recent work."Arunanshu's recent solo 'A Tree From My Backyard' was held in 2014 in Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2014; his solo 'Wind in the Willows' was featured in Anant Art Gallery. He has also been part of various group shows, the important ones being "NEW COLLECTION" at Time and Space gallery, Bangalore (2016); "BARODA CHRONICLES" at the Vadfest, a cultural festival at Vadodara (2015); participation in Beijing International Art Fair, China, represented by Guild art gallery in 2008.
