artist statement

My work is the reflections of my quotidian experiences. Societal functions act as an active referent to me. As a migrant from a rural to an urban space, the focus of the works is the vastly changing urban environment. New habitations and cityscapes have demolished the old cityscapes by its growing economic ventures. A new space has been created between the earth and the sky. When the pressure of modern living become heavy, the harassed city dweller often refers to his teeming world as a concrete jungle. Under normal conditions in their natural habitats wild animals do not mutilate themselves, attack their offspring, develop stomach ulcers, become fetishists, suffer from obesity or commit murder. Amongst city dwellers, these situations occur. Man has set himself up in a huge, restless menagerie. I am witnessing and interpreting the urban paradoxes of contemporary life in the context of urban life and am concerned with the impact of social and political events. I have attempted to maintain the relevance of my thoughts and language in the present context and its connection to my personal life. I am satirically watching the gimmicks in Kerala politics.

About my drawings: Man is equipped with the psychology of experiencing peace and disturbance as isolated and in collusion with each other. The foundation of man's experience is either the unity or the conflict of the body and the mind. At least occasionally, he realizes that he is not his body alone. When the mind, which is another form of the body, attains refinement, it engages in constant dialogue with the body, and sometimes enters into a conflict. The images in 'Secret Dialogue' series are an attempt at seeing such moments.
