Artist Statement

As we are aware in miniatures as well as illustrated manuscripts the margin or "Hashiya" from being merely a dead space became an area of prominence where complex arabesques or lines of writing would be painted and where the relation between the central image and the border would be experimented and explored.

This aspect is something which I have tried to encapsulate in my work in a more contemporary fashion. The centred image is a simple portrait of Ramana the great 20th century sage-his teaching again a simple dictum of self-inquiry. This image is in contract with the surrounding border of elaborately painted border representing a plethora of paths and teachings advocating ways to realize the truth.
