City of Illusions: Paintings by Vandana Kothari

A city is a land of dreams, hopes and nightmares which blurs our intellectual and perceptive faculties. This series of paintings on canvas by Vandana Kothari are based on the experiences and the challenges of living in a mega-city, where the mundane and the extraordinary to meet seamlessly and flow together to create illusions.


Vandana Kothari (b.1978) is a contemporary artist based in New Delhi. She acquired a Master's degree in Fine Arts from the Department of History of Art, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan and is also a recipient of the 'Artist Training Fellowship 2016-17', sponsored by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi. Her work was selected for the 60th NAtioanl Exhibition of Art, Lalit KAla Akademi [2019] and also shortlisted for the 'Glenfiddich Emerging Artist of the Year' award in 2017. Since 2014, she has been teaching as a professor of art at prestigious institutions like Indian Institute if Technology, Kanpur; Indian Institute if Technology Roorkee; M.S. University, Vadodara and the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.


She lives and works in New Delhi.
